Enforces and administers the Federal laws and regulations applicable to the commercial manufacture, importation, distribution, sales, storage & use of fireworks and many special effects, with limited exceptions.

Customs and Border Patrol (CBP)

Enforces and administers the Federal laws and regulations applicable to importation.

Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)

Enforces and administers the Federal laws and regulations applicable to consumer fireworks.

US Department of Transportation (DOT)

Enforces and administers the Federal laws and regulations applicable to commercial transportation, including the classification, shipment and carrying of hazardous materials, including fireworks.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)

Enforces and administers the Federal laws and regulations applicable to commercial driver qualifications and licenses and commercial vehicles, including those that carry hazardous materials, including fireworks.

Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA)

Enforces and administers the Federal laws and regulations applicable to commercial transportation, including the classification and shipment of hazardous materials, including fireworks.

Shipper Registration

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)

Enforces and administers the Federal laws and regulations applicable to aviation, the carrying of hazardous materials, including fireworks on airplanes.

Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA)

Enforces and administers the Federal laws and regulations applicable to employee safety at the workplace.

US Coast Guard

Enforces and administers the Federal laws and regulations applicable to safety and security at harbors and navigable waterways. including the transportation of hazardous materials aboard vessels. The USCG also administers regatta permits for fireworks displays from and over navigable waters, and providing water patrols for approved regatta permits with fireworks displays.

FIREWORKS TRADE ASSOCIATIONS

American Pyrotechnics Association (APA)

The APA is a trade association formed in 1948. and consists primarily of the larger consumer fireworks, display fireworks and theatrical pyrotechnics manufacturers, importers and users in the USA, China and a few other countries. The APA convention in October features a variety of meetings and presentations of interest to the trade.

International Fireworks Association (IFA)

National Fireworks Association (NFA)

The NFA is a trade association formed in 1995. and consists primarily of the medium and smaller consumer fireworks and display fireworks manufacturers, importers, users and retailers in the USA and China. The NFA Expo in September is the largest fireworks trade show in the country

FIREWORKS ENTHUSIAST ASSOCIATIONS

Pyrotechnics Guild International (PGI)

The PGI is the largest fireworks enthusiast association in the world with members primarily from the USA. Founded in 1969, the annual convention in August is a week of demonstrations, competitions, workshops, seminars and socials for the artists that make and use all types of fireworks.

Western Pyrotechnics Association (WPA)

The WPA was founded in 1989 by a few pyrotechnic enthusiasts who decided a west coast based organization was long overdue. The annual Western Winter Blast held in February over Presidents Day weekend in Lake Havasu, Arizona consists of demonstrations, workshops, seminars and socials for the pyrotechnic artists from all over the USA.

American Fireworks News (AFN)

AFN is the publisher of American Fireworks News and Fireworks Business, the two monthly newsletters for enthusiasts and the trade respectively. AFN also publishes a variety of books and other media devoted to the art and craft of pyrotechnics.
